Rural Indiana to be hit hard by decrease in Social Security
Rural areas of states will be hit the hardest by cuts in Social Security. This fact has been determined by studies which show that rural areas have a greater amount of people who are receiving Social Security benefits than urban areas of the state.
Local stores, restaurants and businesses would be negatively impacted because their loyal customers would not have as much money to spend on their services. Indiana’s urban areas have 17 percent of their population receiving Social Security benefits and in the rural area that number increases to 21 percent.
According to research, the reasons for the increase in rural areas are that young individuals usually reside in cities and more rural residents receive disability benefits.
